I love writing this blog. I have had so much fun churning out articles, growing my reader base, and getting positive feedback from my readers. I’ve had big plans as to the direction I am taking the blog, but alas, I haven’t figured out how to add an extra four hours into each day to get it done. Splitting my time between writing new articles each week, promoting the blog online, trying to grow my photography business and take proper care of my three children has begun to take its toll. There seems to be a misconception out there when it comes to vegan desserts. Many people assume that the term vegan equates to healthy. Not so. Vegan simply refers to a food that contains no animal products. That means no meat, cheese, milk, eggs, butter, mayonnaise, fish, etc. All of this is well and good and I love eating food that an animal has not had to die for, but I’m not under any delusion that the vegan Read the rest of this entry →

Has the bounty of your summer garden gotten out of control? Over zealous with your tomato plants this year? If you can’t possibly think of one more way to prepare your surplus veggie or fruit (for me it’s zucchini…it seems to be multiplying daily), perhaps it is time to invest in a dehydrator. I cringe whenever I see athletes gulping down Gatorade or any of the other so called sports drinks that are on the market. (And don’t get me started about how obsessed kids are with all these well marketed drinks). I do understand that sometimes you need something with a little extra zing in it when you are working out that plain water doesn’t provide, but with all of the Read the rest of this entry →

I used to be a spin fanatic. Three times a week I would show up for a 6am class at the gym even in the dead of winter in the pitch dark. There were days I went in snowstorms (only to find out the other much more sane members of the class had opted to stay home). I spun religiously for about three years and then abruptly stopped. I was no longer getting anything out of it. I Read the rest of this entry →

Vinyasa means connecting breath with movement. In a vinyasa flow class students move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. It becomes a moving meditation of sorts. Vinyasa classes can be quite diverse and will vary from instructor to instructor, but in general Read the rest of this entry →

Women have been slaves to our hormones for generations. When they get out of balance, we can suffer from a myriad of unpleasant symptoms including PMS, migraines, skin spots, irregular periods, depression, loss of energy, diarrhea, hot flashes, night sweats, cravings for sweets, loss of interest in sex, dry hair and skin, and forgetfulness. It’s amazing what havoc hormones can wreck on our lives when they are not kept in check.
Certain foods are conducive to keeping your hormones in balance. If you are suffering from a variety of symptoms and are of a certain age, chances are you could benefit from making some changes to your diet to help get yourself back into balance. Read the rest of this entry →

Maca is a Peruvian root grown in the Andes that has long been known for its ability to increase energy, stamina, and sexual function and is becoming more and more recognized for its ability to regulate and support endrocrine health. What woman doesn’t need a little assistance regulating her hormones…PMS, menopause anyone? For my male readers, you may want to pay particular attention as well. Maca is known to increase fertility as well as libido. It’s natures Viagra.
How does it do all of this? The maca root “doesn’t contain any hormones itself, but it provides a unique blend of nutrients that directly fuel the endocrine system and help the glands to produce vital hormones in precise dosages predetermined by one’s own body”. This is according to the Macaroot website. David Wolfe, a raw foods pioneer, is also a huge proponent of using this Read the rest of this entry →

A steak and potatoes guy married to a vegetarian with one child allergic to wheat and dairy and another who will eat nothing but white rice. How do you get dinner out on the table without feeling like a short order cook? Our family has had its share of dietary struggles over the years. I never realized how emotionally charged food issues could be until I tried to change the way my family Read the rest of this entry →

What is with our society’s obsession with large breasts? When did this start and how has it gotten so out of control? Out of my entire circle of friends, colleagues and acquaintances, I only know two other women who are flat-chested like myself. Apparently, we are a dying breed. Now I have nothing against plastic surgery…I’m as vain as the next person and will probably end up going under the knife at some point in my life when my looks really start to plummet, but the boob thing has really started to bother me.
I am so tired of seeing women everywhere I go with abnormally large, beach ball round breasts bursting out of their barely-there tank tops. Men and women alike can’t help but stare at these wonders given the way they are packaged and presented. My favorite is when an 80 year old woman who has obviously become quite good friends with her plastic surgeon struts on by with perkier Read the rest of this entry →
