Weekly health challenge: live to share

Live to share. What a simple yet profound statement. I wish I could take credit for coming up with it, but I can’t. It was written on my Yogi tea bag this morning (I buy that brand of tea just for the daily inspiration). If more people looked at life from the perspective that their purpose is to share, there would be less violence and more joy and comradery in the world. By sharing your life experiences and knowledge with others, you not only enrich their lives but your own as well. It is rewarding to know you are helping someone else. You know you are doing your life’s work if you are willing to do it for free.
What do you want to share with others? It could be a hobby such as gardening, cooking, or painting, or it could be a professional skill like bookkeeping, carpentry, or computer skills. It may just be words of wisdom from having learned something the hard way. As unique individuals we all have something valuable to share with others and we shouldn’t keep what we have learned in our journey through life a secret.
Sharing works both ways. The most overlooked segment of our society is our elder community. In our youth obsessed culture, we tend to cast older people aside as being useless. These valuable citizens have a lifetime of experience and wisdom we can all benefit from. Sit down and have a conversation with an elderly friend or family member and really listen and ask questions. Get beyond the re-hashing of stories heard time and time again and really delve into the history of their lives. You just might learn something.
In today’s high tech world, the vehicles of distribution for sharing are endless. You can blog, tweet, post a how to video on You Tube, write a book, teach a class, or stand on a street corner in Manhattan and preach to the masses…okay maybe that last one isn’t such a great idea, but you get the point.
Keep in mind…our mental and emotional health is just as important (if not more so) than what we eat and drink. Find a way this week to connect with others and share something unique from your life. You’ll be glad you did.

Herbal afternoon teas can be made with light or dried flowers, leafages, seeds or roots, broadly speaking by running boiling H2O over the plant pieces and having them steep for a a couple of minutes. Seeds and roots can also be cooked on a kitchen range. The tisane is then filtered, sweetened if so preferred, and served.
